9/20/04 Pride Reunion a Great Success!

Saturday, September 4, 2004 marked a truly wonderful day in the history of the Pride of Cincinnati organization. A reunion was held at Coney Island Amusement Park in Cincinnati. Over 150 former performers, instructional staff, board members, support staff and their families gathered for a day of fun and reminiscing. Attending the event were representatives from every year of the organization, from the very first drum corps in 1981 through this year's bronze medalist winter guard.

Angel Hope, charter member of the Pride of Cincinnati Drum & Bugle Corps, current board member of the Pride Youth Development Foundation, and the chief organizer of the reunion event had this reaction,  "The weather was perfect...we couldn't have asked for a prettier day and fun was had by all! My only regret is that we couldn't have reached more people. Hopefully by the next blowout we will be able to locate more people from days gone by."

2004 marked the 20th anniversary of the very first Pride of Cincinnati Winter guard and was a great reason to get everyone who has been a part of the Pride Family together once again! The days events included some intense bingo playing, fabulous video presentations, and challenging trivia questions accompanied by refreshing beverages and a tasty lunch and dessert. Video entertainment was provided by former soprano player and drum major, Doug Yeager, who is the proprietor of his own video production company, I Do Video. Also on hand to record the day's fun was Bateman Photography, one of the corporate sponsors of the Winter guard. Photos from the reunion can be purchased on the Batemen website via the link on the Pride home page.

2006 will mark the 25th anniversary of the Pride of Cincinnati organization. Will another reunion be in the plans? You never can tell! In any case we need to be prepared. If you know any past performers, instructional or support staff please encourage them to visit the alumni webpage and register on our database!

6/20/04 Pride Board of Directors Welcomes New Members and New Assistant Director!

It is with great pleasure to announce that Rocky Binder and Bart Woodley have been appointed to the board of directors of the Pride Youth Development Foundation. Their nominations were accepted and voted unanimously by the board at the last quarterly board meeting held May 10, 2004. Both of these gentlemen bring their talents, desire, ambition and vision to the board and have extensive histories with the organization. They have already begun to make significant contributions, and the rest of the board is delighted to welcome their energy and ideas.

Bart's appointment to the board of directors follows his resignation as
the Assistant Director for the Pride of Cincinnati Winterguard, a
position he has held for three years. In this capacity, Bart has been
an invaluable asset to the organization with his expertise in marketing
and advertising and his many contributions as an administrator and
educator of the winterguard. Many of his talents will continue to
benefit the organization with his appointment to the board of directors.
Bart will also remain on the winterguard staff for the 2005 season.

Toni Twaddell will fill the vacancy of Assistant Director effective June 1, 2004. Toni's involvement with Pride is almost as long as the history of Pride itself. She has been a member, teacher, and most recently a member of the board of directors. Her creativity, organizational skills and undying love of the organization made her an ideal candidate for the position. She will work directly with Charlie and has already begun to transition into her new role. These two will make an awesome team.

Be sure to congratulate Rocky, Bart and Toni on their new positions in
the organization when you see them next.

5/5/04 WGI Championships Review!

Pride of Cincinnati went to California and did not bust!  They actually brought home the Bronze medal for the Independent World Class!

After a FANTASTIC  performance in prelims that securely placed them in third place, Pride continued the tradition of having outstanding performance quality, and being one of the crowd favorites during their finals performance.

There was such a buzz in the arena as Pride began and mystified with the intro “Come look at the freaks, come gape at the Geeks”. There was hardly time to breathe as the performers continued to dazzle and amaze, in many complex weight sharing and body sculpting moments! The equipment work oozed character which brought the Sideshow theme to life.

Congratulations to the Members, Board, and staff for once again producing and performing something totally original, unique and daring.

4/1 Mideast Power Regional

Coming off of the most constricted space to the luxury of UD arena, Pride was set up to have a great show.  With the majority of the major fixes complete in the show, they walked into UD with great confidence and had their best run to date in Prelims.

The finals crowd was enthusiastic through many of the difficult sections of the program and the performers fed off of that energy.

A review of this performance and a video clip can be found here: http://www.wgi.org/news/features/20040330dayton.php

Pride ends their local competition season this weekend at Ryle HS during the Tri State Championships.  For more info on the show visit http://www.tristatecircuit.com

3/2 Kings Show

Pride of Cincinnati
nearly “busted at the seams” at Kings HS.  When Pride entered the gym, so many people were there to watch that they would not fit in the stands. There was an announcement made and people actually had to stand and back up against the walls in order to have room for a safe performance.

With the audience “in the round”, the performers were on fire! There was a sense of electricity that jolted each member of the guard and audience as well.  Definitely a hype before the regional weekend to come!

3/7

POC has returned from Chesterton, IN safe and sound.  After a couple grueling weeks of changes to the show (combined with sickness and injuries), Pride came out in Chesterton fighting, but both performances were a little "rough around the edges".

Fans began to see more "Sideshow" characteristics as the performers continue to develop their individual characters.

Pride would like to thank all of the fans for their kind words throughout the weekend and for their support during the finals performance.  It is great to be able to perform to such an energetic crowd.

Pride will be performing at the Kings HS show on  March 20th.  COME AND SEE THE SHOW! Its a Dynamo!

2 /14

Tampa Power Regional

Pride took the journey to Tampa, FL to participate in the first ever Power Regional held by WGI.  This served as a great opening to their season and an outstanding start down the road to WGI.

2/6/04

Last weekend was the debut of “Sideshow! Alive on the Inside” from the performers of the 2004 Pride of Cincinnati. Saturday afternoon's Tri-State Circuit performance had its opening day jitters, yet continued to dazzle and amaze all those who were able to catch a glimpse ….keep your eyes peeled for the sword swallow. There is something unexpected around every corner in this show. Similar to an actual Sideshow, you never know what you will see next!

Sunday Pride made a visit to the MEPA circuit for their opening competition. A packed house got an up-close and personal view of the show, and a stronger performance quality was apparent on Sunday. An overwhelmingly receptive crowd made a great experience for the performers as they prepare for their first WGI competition at the Power Regional South at the Sundome in Tampa Florida.

1/19/04
