Pride of Cincinnati Diaries 2006
2/10-2/12
Rachel Nelson
This weekend started out like every other weekend. I got in my car and started my 4 hour drive down to Ohio from Detroit. Except I had packed an extra suitcase for pride to put a piece of our tarp in. To get our tarp over to Amsterdam we had to cut it up into 30 pieces. And when we got over there we had to tape the monster back together.
This weekend was all about getting ready for the European regional. We started out on Friday as usual. Starting in dance block with Johnny at 7:30. We warmed up on equipment and began to run parts of the show. Finally ending the night with a run through at 11:00 ish.
The next morning we woke up bright and early to start a long day of rehearsal. We basically spent the day cleaning and filling in any parts that were still l empty.
On our dinner break we had a meeting about Amsterdam. Basically when and where we were meeting before we flew out, what we needed to bring, what the itinerary was, and phone numbers where our friends and family at home could reach us. I fell asleep...pops. ha ha!!!!
Anyway we had a show on Sunday. It was the first run of the show make up... and lets just say that the first run was a little rough. Some girls ended up looking like they had black eyes, and Pinocchio checks. But after many ponds wipes and me giving a few individual lessons we were looking good.
We all followed each other to the show site. Along the way I made a wrong turn and lost everyone... ha ha After a few minutes on the phone with Travis I found my way back to everyone.
We had a small fender bender on the way there between a few members and their cars. No one was seriously hurt but their cars were slightly bent up. The four people involved went to the emergency room to get everything checked out. And so we performed our show with 4 holes. It was really different with 4 people missing. We did our best to push through the show. You really don't realize how much you rely on each other's energy until someone is gone. We didn't exactly have a good run. But hey, you gotta learn from mistakes right?
After the show we all met in the school's band room and began to cut up the floor and weigh out the floor pieces. I had to head out early to get back to Detroit so I didn't get home at like midnight. Anyway overall the weekend was very eventful to say the least!
